Overview

Choosing the right configuration
A lobe booster works with a primary pump to improve pumping speed over part of the pressure range. Select the pair from the system curve and respect differential-pressure and start-up limits. A booster is not a stand-alone replacement for the backing pump.
A Roots-type booster must be selected with its primary pump and control arrangement. Maximum differential pressure is not an ultimate-vacuum rating. The gas chamber is dry; gears, bearings and shaft sealing have separate lubricant requirements.

A Pirani vacuum transducer is a useful starting point for measuring pump-down into lower pressures. Check its measuring range, gas correction and process compatibility. Measure at the chamber or point of use when that is the pressure your process depends on. Gauge calibration can be specified around the operating range and required test points.
How do I select oil and service parts?
Use the complete model, serial number and manufacturer oil specification. Different suffixes and gear compartments can require different lubricants. See vacuum oils and greases and send the nameplate details when requesting parts.

Can this equipment be considered for a larger vacuum installation?
Discuss the complete duty when reviewing industrial vacuum systems. A central installation also needs matched controls, filtration, pipework and pressure measurement; pump capacity alone is not the system specification.
