Existing instruments
Send the gauge model, serial number, pressure range and your previous certificate if available. We will check the appropriate service, required test points and any adjustment or repair request.
New gauges with calibration
Specify the certificate when ordering your gauge. Matching calibration to the pressures you actually use is more useful than asking for a certificate without defining the measurement requirement.
Calibration for your measurement task
Enquire about dial vacuum gauges, absolute capsule gauges, digital vacuum meters and electronic transducers. Tell us whether the instrument is used for a quick plant check, a process acceptance limit, recorded test results or a quality audit. Those uses can require different evidence.
For an electronic system, identify the sensor, controller, cable and displayed units. If the result you depend on is the controller reading, ask whether the complete measuring chain should be included. Sensor-only calibration may not address an error elsewhere in the system.
Which calibration certificate do you need?
Traceable calibration
Provides measurement results with a documented traceability route. Ask us to confirm the test points, uncertainty information and certificate content needed for your own quality system.
A traceable certificate is not automatically an accredited calibration certificate.
Accredited calibration
Where your specification requires UKAS or another recognised accreditation, tell us at the quotation stage. We check the relevant laboratory scope against the instrument, range and required measurement uncertainty.
Accreditation applies to defined activities and capabilities; it is not a blanket approval for every pressure or gauge type.
Certificate type, accredited scope where requested, turnaround and any adjustment work are confirmed for the individual quotation. Read UKAS guidance on calibration laboratory accreditation.
What to send for a useful quotation
- Instrument details: model, serial number, quantity, connection and any associated controller.
- Pressure requirement: full range, units, absolute or relative reference, and the pressures used in your process.
- Certificate requirement: traceable or accredited, requested test points and any customer or audit specification.
- Acceptance criteria: required tolerance and whether you need a pass/fail statement, including the decision rule your procedure requires.
- Condition and timing: known faults, process gases or contamination, previous certificate and required completion date.
How the service works
1. Define the requirement. Send the information above, or describe the application if you are unsure of the certificate needed.
2. Agree the quotation. Girovac confirms the service, certificate, logistics and expected timing. Ask for as-found readings before adjustment if these matter to your quality records.
3. Prepare the instrument. Follow the agreed return instructions and disclose process exposure. Please contact us before dispatching equipment that may contain hazardous residues.
4. Review the results. Check the instrument identity, test points and reported results against your requirement. If adjustment is included, ask for the relevant as-left results as well.
Vacuum gauge calibration questions
How often should a vacuum gauge be calibrated?
Set the interval using the application risk, frequency of use, environment, instrument guidance and previous drift. A fixed annual interval may suit some systems, but it is not a universal rule. Review the interval when results or operating conditions change.
Is calibration the same as adjustment?
No. Calibration establishes the relationship between the instrument indication and a reference under stated conditions. Adjustment changes the instrument response. Tell us whether you want results before adjustment, after adjustment, or both.
Can a −1 bar dial gauge verify high vacuum?
No. A relative dial shows pressure below local atmosphere. It does not have the resolution to verify the low absolute pressures of a high-vacuum system. Choose a suitable absolute sensor and calibration range.
Can you arrange UKAS-accredited vacuum calibration?
Ask Girovac with the instrument details and required pressure points. Availability is checked against the current accredited laboratory scope and measurement uncertainty. We confirm the applicable certificate before you place the order.
Should I send the controller with the sensor?
Tell us which reading your process uses and supply the system details. We can then establish whether the request should cover the sensor alone or the complete measuring chain.
Can a faulty gauge be calibrated?
Describe the fault first. Inspection, cleaning, repair or replacement may be needed before meaningful calibration. Any additional work and cost should be agreed before proceeding.
Which gauges and systems can I discuss with Girovac?
Start with our 0–25 mbar absolute capsule gauge, portable meters and data loggers or Pirani vacuum transducers. For an installed system, include details of the centralised vacuum system, laboratory vacuum system or turbo-pumped installation and its existing measuring instruments. Calibration scope is confirmed for the instrument, not inferred from the pump or system model.
