Girovac · Vacuum fluid selection & supply
Vacuum pump oil lubricates, seals and helps remove heat in oil-sealed mechanical pumps. Girovac’s range includes GBR mineral and synthetic hydrocarbon oils, Anderol diester lubricants and Krytox PFPE oils. Choose the specified chemistry and viscosity for the pump and process, then confirm the current grade before ordering.
Mineral, synthetic and PFPE oils
Synthetic PAO & diester
GBR 45 is a PAO synthetic hydrocarbon. Anderol 495, 496, 497 and 555 are diester grades. Select them against the equipment specification and process requirements.
PFPE
Krytox fluorinated oils are specialist options where conventional oils may be unsuitable. Oxygen or reactive-gas service requires approval of the complete pump system and its preparation.
Mechanical pump oil and flushing-fluid range
The viscosity figures below are in centistokes (cSt) at 40°C. One cSt equals one mm²/s. Compare fluids at the same measurement temperature, and do not use viscosity as the only selection criterion.

Krytox PFPE vacuum pump oils
The brochure lists four Krytox grades for specialist vacuum applications. These viscosity figures are measured at 20°C, so they must not be directly compared with the 40°C table above.

Changing to PFPE is a system decision
Do not mix PFPE with hydrocarbon oil or treat a drain-and-refill as an approved conversion. Ask the pump manufacturer about compatibility, cleaning, seals and the authorised changeover procedure, especially for oxygen or reactive-gas service.
When should vacuum pump oil be changed?
Follow the pump manual and adapt the interval to the actual process. Contamination, water, unusual oil condition or a loss of performance should prompt investigation. Changing the oil alone may not resolve a leak, worn component or unsuitable operating conditions.

Questions about vacuum pump oil
Can I mix two vacuum pump oils with the same viscosity?
Do not assume that you can. Base chemistry, additives, seal compatibility and manufacturer approval matter as well as viscosity. Confirm an approved replacement and changeover procedure before mixing or switching.
Is flushing fluid the same as running oil?
No. Solvex 10 is listed as a hydrocarbon flushing fluid. Use it only within an approved cleaning procedure; it is not an automatic substitute for the pump’s operating oil.
Can PFPE oil make any pump suitable for oxygen?
No. Suitability depends on the entire pump system, materials, cleanliness and approved operating conditions. Confirm the equipment manufacturer’s oxygen-service requirements before selecting or changing a fluid.
Why are Krytox viscosities shown at a different temperature?
The Girovac brochure reports those PFPE grades at 20°C and the other mechanical oils at 40°C. Viscosity changes with temperature, so keeping the measurement condition visible avoids a misleading comparison.
