A request for a “bigger vacuum pump” usually starts with a practical problem: the chamber takes too long to empty, a machine loses vacuum under load, or another production station has been added. The Edwards EDO65 and EDO100 offer two capacities for industrial rough vacuum. Choosing between them means finding out where the extra capacity will help.
What changes between the two models?
| Specification | EDO65 | EDO100 |
|---|---|---|
| Pumping speed | 65 m³/h | 100 m³/h |
| Ultimate pressure | ≤1.5 mbar | ≤1.5 mbar |
| Nominal motor power | 1.5 kW | 2.2 kW |
| Inlet and outlet | NW40 | NW40 |
The EDO100 has the larger quoted pumping speed. It does not have a lower published ultimate pressure than the EDO65. Motor power is a motor rating, rather than a prediction of electricity consumption throughout your production cycle.
Separate pump-down from continuous demand
For a chamber, record its free volume, starting pressure, target pressure and allowed evacuation time. Include the pipe between the pump and chamber. A restrictive hose can prevent a larger pump from delivering the improvement you expected.
For a continuous process, describe the gas entering while the machine is working. Holding applications can have a steady leak through the material or seals; degassing can release a changing gas load as the batch progresses. These duties need the pumping-speed curve at the working pressure, rather than a comparison of headline figures alone.
Check what reaches the inlet
Both models use oil-free scroll technology. That description does not establish suitability for every vapour, solvent or dusty process. Give the supplier the gas composition, temperature and likely carryover. Include filtration or separation in the enquiry where the process needs it.
If the existing pump has failed, describe the failure as well as supplying its model number. Replacing damaged equipment with more capacity will not resolve a recurring contamination problem.
Make the installation part of the comparison
Check the electrical version, available space, ventilation, exhaust route and service access. Ask for a quotation that identifies the pump reference and any valves, gauge, fittings or protection supplied with it. This makes the two options easier to compare and reduces the chance of an installation waiting for one missing connection.
Discuss your equipment requirement
Compare both product pages, then use our complete installation checklist to describe the rest of the job. For a quotation, send your requirements to Girovac or call 01692 660 117.
