“SCROLLVAC 10 plus” is a useful starting point for an enquiry. It is not the whole specification. The electrical version affects the performance figures you should use, as well as the work needed to connect the pump. That can matter when a laboratory moves equipment between sites or replaces a pump bought several years ago.
Match the figures to the supply
The SCROLLVAC 10 plus listing gives a peak speed of 10.6 m³/h for single-phase 50/60 Hz or three-phase 60 Hz operation. For three-phase 50 Hz, the published figure is 9.1 m³/h. Its gas-ballast-closed ultimate pressure also differs: 0.009 mbar for the first group of configurations and 0.04 mbar for three-phase 50 Hz.
This is why two quotations with the same model name deserve a closer look. Check the full order code, motor supply and frequency before comparing either performance or price. In a UK installation, “three-phase” by itself is not enough information.
Describe the duty as well as the volume
A chamber volume tells only part of the story. Add the target pressure, gas throughput, time available and frequency of venting. The manufacturer’s instructions describe the 7–18 plus range as optimised for constant throughput and not recommended for cyclic duty. Repeated pump-down needs particular attention during selection.
If you are backing a turbomolecular pump, supply its model and expected process gas load. The backing requirement should be checked as a combined system, including the connecting line.
Choose the process variant deliberately
Standard, H and C options should be reviewed against the process. The H arrangement replaces the gas-ballast control with a blank adapter. A C variant requires assessment against the actual corrosive substances and operating conditions; its name does not mean universal chemical resistance.
Describe routine cleaning as well as normal production. A pump may encounter a different vapour load during cleaning, drying or recovery from an interrupted process.
Leave room to install and maintain it
Use the dimensional drawing to check the footprint, then allow additional room for hoses, ventilation and service access. Confirm the cable, electrical protection, remote controls and exhaust arrangement with the selected version. A pump that fits on a shelf may still be awkward to connect or maintain.
For a straightforward replacement, a photograph of the existing nameplate and connections is often the quickest way to avoid a mismatch. Include any change you want to make, such as moving from local operation to machine control.
Discuss your equipment requirement
Compare the 7 plus, 15 plus and 18 plus once the electrical and process requirements are clear. For a quotation, send your requirements to Girovac or call 01692 660 117.
